Full Re-RoofingAcross the Wirral& Merseyside
A watertight, warrantied new roof that adds value to your home, cuts heat loss and ends the cycle of patch repairs — installed by a directly employed team, backed by a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee.
Re-Roofing — what, who, when & why
What it is
A full re-roof strips your existing roof back to the rafters, replaces the felt or breathable membrane, timber battens and coverings (slate, tile, GRP or single-ply), and renews the leadwork, flashings and fixings so the whole system performs as one.
Who it's for
Homeowners with roofs at end of life (typically 60–100 years for slate, 40–60 for concrete tile, 15–25 for older felt flat roofs), landlords protecting rental assets, and buyers acting on a surveyor's report before completion.
When you need it
When you see multiple slipped or missing coverings, sagging ridges, sunlight through the loft, damp staining on upstairs ceilings, or when a chartered surveyor has flagged the roof in a Level 2 or Level 3 report.
Why professional matters
A re-roof is a structural investment, not a cosmetic one. Cutting corners on membrane, batten spacing or lead detailing shortens the life of the whole roof by decades. Our installations follow BS 5534 and carry a 10-year HomePro insurance-backed guarantee — protection that survives even if a contractor stops trading.
What happens if you leave it
Damage escalation
- Water tracking down rafters rots structural timber long before it stains a ceiling — by the time you see damp indoors, the repair bill has doubled.
- Failed underlay lets wind-driven rain into the loft, ruining insulation and encouraging mould that affects respiratory health.
- Slipped slates on gable ends become falling slates in the next storm — a serious liability on a public footpath or driveway.
- Sagging ridges signal rafter or purlin movement; leave it and you move from a re-roof to a re-roof plus structural carpentry.
Common mistakes
- Accepting a quote that doesn't itemise membrane, battens, leadwork and fixings — the cheapest quotes hide the shortcuts.
- Reusing old lead flashings to save a few hundred pounds, then paying thousands when the chimney leaks two winters later.
- Choosing a contractor without insurance-backed guarantees, leaving no recourse if the business folds.

Materials, methods & specifications
Pitched re-roof — natural slate
Welsh and Spanish natural slates fixed twice-nailed on treated 25×50 battens over a breathable underlay. Copper or stainless nails at exposed elevations. Code 4 lead soakers, code 5 stepped flashings to chimneys, dry ridge and dry verge systems eliminate mortar failure. Typical life expectancy 80–100 years.
Pitched re-roof — concrete & clay tile
Marley, Redland and Sandtoft ranges installed on treated battens with mechanical clips to perimeter and every fifth course inland, every third course on the coast (Meols, Hoylake, West Kirby) where wind uplift is higher. Dry-fix ridge and verge as standard.
Flat re-roof options
GRP fibreglass, EPDM rubber and torch-on high-performance felt — chosen for span, foot traffic, roof-lantern presence and detailing complexity. Warm-roof upgrades where the existing deck allows. Covered in detail on the Flat Roofing and GRP Roofing pages.
Structural checks
Before quoting, we inspect rafter dimensions, purlin sag, chimney condition and eaves ventilation. Anything requiring a structural engineer or building control notification is flagged in writing before work starts.
Residential vs commercial
For commercial premises we work outside opening hours where required, provide RAMS documentation, and coordinate directly with facilities managers, letting agents and chartered surveyors.
Re-Roofing — your questions answered
How much does a full re-roof cost in the Wirral?+
Every job is quoted free, fixed-price and itemised in writing after a no-obligation inspection — costs vary by pitch, access, materials and scope, so call 0800 043 1108 or request a free quote for a firm figure.
How long does a re-roof take?+
A three-bed semi is usually 4–6 working days on-site. Larger detached houses, complex hips and valleys, or chimneys requiring rebuilding may extend to 7–10 days. Your start date is confirmed in writing before scaffold arrives.
Do I need planning permission?+
Like-for-like re-roofs are almost always permitted development. Changes of material (slate to tile, for example) or work on listed buildings and conservation areas require consent — we advise you before quoting and can liaise with the local authority.
What guarantee do you provide?+
Every full re-roof carries a 10-year HomePro insurance-backed guarantee. That means the guarantee remains valid even if the company ceases trading — a level of protection a standard workmanship warranty cannot match.
Can I finance the work?+
Yes. Through our authorised partner iDeal 4 Finance you can spread the cost via iDeal 4 Finance on approved credit. Stage payments are also available on larger projects to align cashflow with progress.
Will you tidy up afterwards?+
Yes. Skip removed, gutters cleared of debris, driveways and lawns raked with a magnetic sweep for stray nails, and a final walk-around with you before we invoice.
Are you insured?+
£5,000,000 public liability and £5,000,000 employers' liability with Covéa Insurance plc. Certificates are shown at survey and included with your quote pack.
How quickly can you start?+
Most re-roofs are scheduled 2–6 weeks from quote acceptance depending on season. Emergency make-safes for storm damage can be same day via the mobile line — 07722 733343.
